Drama Movie Preview Fall 2008Rachel McAdams, Josh Brolin, John Leguizamo Star in New Releases
Timely dramas about returning soldiers, President George W. Bush, and a Hispanic family reuniting hit movie screens this fall.
Look for comedy and lots of political commentary in these three new independent dramas with theatrical releases this fall. Rachel McAdams (Married Life), Tim Robbins (Zathura: A Space Adventure), and Michael Pena (Babel) star as three soldiers on leave from their duties in Iraq. When they become stranded due to blackout flights, they embark on an unexpected road trip across the United States. Sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant, their journey involves much more than covering physical distance as the injured sergeant (Pena), the naïve private (McAdams), and the older family man (Robbins) struggle with old relationships, dissenting views on the war, and dreams that didn’t come true.
In this highly anticipated drama by director Oliver Stone (World Trade Center, Alexander), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) stars as America’s 43rd President George W. Bush and Elizabeth Banks (Scrubs) portrays first lady Laura Bush. Always eager to jump into a controversy, Stone takes audiences through Bush’s eventful life story, including the ups and downs, the origins of his faith, his romance with Laura, his election campaign, early days in office, and critical days before deciding to invade Iraq.
Formerly titled Humboldt Park, this family drama stars John Leguizamo (Love in the Time of Cholera) and Freddy Rodriguez (Ugly Betty). The story focuses on a Puerto Rican family that reunites over the Christmas holiday in the Chicago neighborhood of Humboldt Park. The script, written by Rick Najera, Ted Perkins and Alison Swan, examines the Rodriguez family when they come together at their parents’ home to celebrate and rejoice in their youngest brother’s safe return from combat overseas. However, all families have their problems, and when old disputes resurface and new problems arise, loyalties and alliances flounder. A mixture of comedy and drama, Nothing Like the Holidays requires that the family work together to make it through to the New Year.
