Look for these new dramatic movies from Lionsgate and Overture Films in theaters this fall.

Dramas about crime, family, and war soon hit the big screen in the fall of 2009.

Law Abiding Citizen

In this dramatic thriller, a clever sociopath (Gerard Butler) is imprisoned for the murder of his wife’s killers. Unless he gets released from prison, he threatens to get his revenge on the justice system and the penal system in the most frightening way possible: He will execute a series of high-profile murders around the city from inside his jail cell. His vengeance grips the city of Philadelphia and the assistant district attorney (Jamie Foxx) who prosecuted the case.

Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire

In this emotional drama, Precious Jones (Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe) is a high school girl, pregnant for the second time with her own father’s child. Suffering from obesity and illiteracy, she becomes a victim of her classmates and of her abusive family. Her mother (Mo’Nique) uses emotional and physical means to keep her daughter trapped at home. The film explores how Precious finds a way to overcome the odds against her in this underdog story.

Brothers

When a highly respected Marine (Tobey Maguire) is presumed dead after his helicopter gets shot down, his black-sheep younger brother (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes on his brother’s responsibilities, including taking care of his lovely wife and children. When the Marine unexpectedly returns home, the uncomfortable love triangle affects them all in different ways. As the situation develops, the brothers seem to switch from their earlier roles of the heroic older brother and the irresponsible younger brother.
