A film about sharing faith and making the best of life, Facing the Giants is more than entertainment and more than a football movie, and can be enjoyed be many.

Produced in 2006 by Sherwood Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia, the creators of Fireproof, Facing the Giants is an inspirational movie for the whole family. Starring Alex Kendrick, co-writer of The Love Dare, and Shannen Fields, Facing the Giants is a film that can not only entertain, but touch the lives of so many.

An Inspiring Story

After six years, Coach Grant Taylor’s work with the Shiloh Eagles at Shiloh Christian Academy is not taking shape the way he expected. His team is diminishing in numbers, has few games won and Grant is having trouble making ends meet at home. To add insult to injury, Grant and his wife, Brooke, are having trouble starting a family.

When Grant overhears a conversation that could mean the loss of his job, he becomes more determined to be a better coach and to teach the team to be a better team. As a beginning step, Coach Taylor writes up a new team philosophy.

A Touching Film

Remember the Titans has a good idea when the Titans decide to be powered by “soul power,” and it works for their endeavours to fight for what is good and right. Facing the Giants takes that attitude one step further. As his wife states that his new team philosophy does not just apply to football but to all of life, Grant finds opportunity to teach life lessons and not simply football to his team. Following the example of the new team philosophy, Facing the Giants is not just another football movie.

Facing the Giants is a film to which the audience can relate in different ways. The movie speaks to everyone with hopes and dreams that are yet to be realized. It is for everyone who struggles at work or at home. The Giants are not just a rival football team, but are representative of life’s trials. Facing the Giants is not just about Coach Taylor’s team facing their football rivals, but about defeating the mountains in one’s life.

Facing the Giants in Life

Facing the Giants is about finding faith in God and learning to share it with others. It is a film about trusting that faith to help face figurative giants of fears and failures, as the title implies. The film touches on so many serious aspects with tear-jerking moments, but does not refrain from infusing humour into life. This humour not only lightens the mood of the movie, but shows that the faith it takes to face giants will also help one see the bright side of life.

Facing the Giants is a movie that can be enjoyed by so many for many good reasons. It is an inspiration to do the best in life. Besides the life lessons in the movie, it is a good story and a fun movie night pass-time.
