The Golden Globe Award Nominations for the year ending 2008 were announced early on December 11. The nominations for Best Motion Picture – Drama, include: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Reader, Frost/Nixon, Revolutionary Road and Slumdog Millionaire. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett is described on the official website was adopted from a 1920’s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story is about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. Like anyone else, the man is unable to stop time. Set in New Orleans, the story starts at the end of World War I in 1918 and progresses into the 21st century, all the while the man is getting younger. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a time traveler’s tale directed by David Fincher. Warner Brother Pictures and Paramount Pictures The Reader The Reader takes place in post World War II Germany. Ten years after a secret affair, a young man and older woman are brought back together when she is a defendant in a courtroom. Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Jeanette Hain, David Kross and Kate Winslet. Directed by Stephen Daldry. Mirage Enterprises Frost/Nixon Frost/Nixon received five Golden Globe Nominations, including Best Picture, Frank Langella as Best Actor, Ron Howard as Best Director, Peter Morgan as Best Screenplay and Hans Zimmer for Best Score. This political docudrama depicts an on screen interview between British TV personality David Frost (Michael Sheen and President Richard Nixon that took place in 1977, three years after he resigned doe the the Watergate scandal. Cast: Frank Langellla, Michael Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Rebecca Hall, Toby Jones, Matthew MacFadyen, Oiver Platt, Sam Rochkell. Director: Ron Howard. Imagine Entertainment Revolutionary Road Revolutionary Road, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, is based on a novel by Richard Yates. The portrait of American Marriage in the 1950’s and the modern couples desire to break away from the ordinary. Directed by Sam Mendes. DreamWorks Pictures in Association with BBC Films and Paramount Vantage Slumdog Millionaire An impoverished Indian teenager, Jamal Malik is a contestant on the Hindi version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Directors Danny Boyle and Loveleen Tandan. Fox Searchlight Pictures and Warner Bros.
